Valerio Mendoza Guillén

«valzio»

I’m a filmmaker from Venezuela based in Prague.

Back in Caracas I completed studies in Journalism and Media; soon after graduation I jumped into filmmaking, producing and directing a series of anthropological documentaries for TV. During this time I also took part as editor and writer for biographical and art documentaries.

In 2009 I moved to Prague and enrolled FAMU for a Master in Directing.

My work as director has been selected in around 50 film festivals and collected various awards. I’ve been co-writer of two fiction features taken into production and currently I’m developing the documentary feature Volver a Volver, together with Jorge Sánchez.

Since 2014 I work as facilitator on media and documentary workshops for NGOs. Together with Esteban Alfaro I run Young Film Set, a platform offering filmmaking workshops for children in several International Schools in Prague.

Since January 2018 I teach at FAMU International, consult students projects and assist as junior mentor at the workshops of Pavel Marek and Andrea Sedláčková.

My passion for cinema and stories makes me not only be always developing one or more ideas, but also consulting the dramaturgy of other colleagues work, both in the writing and editing stages.

Back in the days my friends started to call me «valzio», I guess under the classic Venezuelan habit of shortening names.
